History of Ultrasonic Testing

For a long time, gas cylinders have been regularly checked for flaws using hydraulic testing. Despite this testing however, there were still fatal accidents, and it became clear that many critical flaws cannot be detected with hydraulic pressure tests. Despite this testing, fatal accidents till occurred, as evidently many critical flaws could not be detected.

We put the first automated ultrasonic testing device into operation in the early seventies and proved, that this testing method is able to detect safety-relevant flaws in gas cylinders which wourld remain undetected using a conventional internal pressure test with water

Ultrasonic testing method has been officially acknowledged by international legislation (ADR/RID) as an alternative to hydraulic pressure test since 1997. Nowadays, ultrasonic test method represent state-of-the-art technology in the examination of gas cylinders, and is adopted internationally by the leading companies in the gas industry.

First Ultrasonic Testing Device 1974

The test was performed in a water tank. The cylinders were fully submerged for the testing. The test electronics were much bigger (~10x) than today.

First mobile Ultrasonic Testing Device 1979

The machines were equipped with simple ultrasonic test electronics.

Modern mobile ultrasonic testing system as is used nowadays.
